Well we all love summer and the beautiful weather it brings, our lashes not so much!

Summer is always so hot and humid which can make it the season for poor lash retention. We all know our lashes don’t like sweat, oil and humidity so some extra care is very important during this time. I have a few non-negotiables and few suggestions to help you get through this summer season.

  1. My first non-negotiable is Lash cleanser. This should already be in your everyday routine. It is so important to clean your lashes daily to remove dirt, oil, makeup and any build up. It is essential all year round to keep them hygienic and clean.
  2. My second non-negotiable is keeping your lashes dry for the first 24 hours after having them applied. It is so important and will help the glue bond to the lashes. Stay cool and dry. Keep in mind, any steam or sweat will prevent the glue from bonding.
  3. When applying Sunscreen everyday, be careful around the eye area. If any Sunscreen gets on your lashes it will break down the glue and they will start to fall out within hours. If you can find an oil free sunscreen, your lashes will love you for it! Avoid all spray on sunscreens.
  4. While Oily skin types is great for the ageing process, it’s not so great in summer with lash extensions. To reduce the natural oils that may come into contact with your lashes, try using matte skincare and make up products. Using your eyelash cleanser daily is a must!!
  5. “Can you go swimming with lash extensions?” Being a lash technician, this is one of the most asked questions. The simple answer is yes! However, both chlorine and saltwater can affect lash retention time. So, whether you are swimming in a pool or the ocean, try wear goggles or keep your eyelashes out of the water. If you do get them wet, we recommend rinsing with fresh tap water post-swim and then combing through your lashes with a lash wand or patting (not rubbing!) them dry to remove excess water. Keeping them clean and dry will extend the life of your lashes.
  6. Avoid spray tan on the face and lashes. Tan is designed to stick to the skin and be long lasting. It can be really difficult to get off your lash extensions and can affect the glue bond over time. You can cover your lashes when getting a spray tan to protect them i.e. Goggles or try a tanning lotion for the face instead.

Hopefully these summer tips will help you keep your eyelash extensions looking flawless all year round! Hope you all enjoy your holiday season.
